Privacy Policy

In short

The Reader collects no data about you. The texts you add, the extracted content, your listening position and the generated audio files stay on your iPhone. The developer has access to none of it. There is no user account, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDKs.

What happens on your device

Every processing step runs offline on the iPhone:

• Article extraction — the page you open is analysed on the device to separate the article text from the surrounding page furniture.
• PDF processing — text is read via Apple's PDFKit. If there is no text layer, Apple's on-device text recognition (Vision) reads the pages.
• Language detection — whether a paragraph is German or English is determined locally by Apple's NaturalLanguage framework.
• Speech — narration uses the iOS system voices (AVSpeechSynthesizer). Audio file export is produced on the device as well.
• Storage — your texts, reading position and exported audio live in the app's protected storage area on the device.

The only network access

When you enter a web address, the app fetches exactly that address — no more, no less, just as a browser would. As with any visit, the operator of that site learns your IP address and your device's technical details. We have no influence over this; that site's own privacy policy applies.

The app sends no identifier that would make you or your device identifiable to us. Nothing is transmitted to the developer or to third parties. Adding a PDF requires no network connection at all.

What does not happen

• No account, no registration, no email address.
• No analytics, crash reporting or advertising libraries.
• No sharing with third parties, no selling of data.
• No access to contacts, location, camera or microphone.

Legal basis

Because we neither collect, process nor store personal data, no processing by us arises under the GDPR. Processing on your device happens solely to deliver the function you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and never leaves your device.

Your rights

You have the rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Since we hold no data about you, we cannot provide information about your person either. You delete all app content by removing individual entries or the app.

App Store

If you download the app from the App Store, Apple processes its own data as part of the purchase and download. We have no influence over this; Apple's privacy policy applies.

This website

These pages are served via GitHub Pages. On access, GitHub processes technically necessary data such as IP address, timestamp and requested file. We set no cookies, embed no third-party fonts or scripts and run no analytics.

Changes

When the app changes, this policy changes with it. The version published here with the date above is the applicable one.
