In short

Padometer collects no data about you. Sensor readings are evaluated on the watch as they arrive and are not stored. The steps, distance and workout the app produces go into your Health app — the developer has no access to any of it. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDKs.

Controller

What happens on your watch

Everything the app does runs offline on the Apple Watch:

• Motion sensors — the app reads acceleration and rotation rate (CoreMotion) to detect steps. watchOS asks for that permission. The readings pass through a ring buffer a few seconds long and are then overwritten: there is no record of your movement, on the watch or anywhere else.
• Health (HealthKit) — with your permission the app writes steps, distance and the workout to Health, and reads heart rate, active energy, steps and distance to show the running session and your daily total. That data stays in your Health app. The developer has no access to it. Health data is never used for advertising or marketing and is not passed on to third parties.
• Settings — sensitivity, stride length, daily goal and the last summary are stored locally in the app's settings on the watch.

Health data

Steps, distance and heart rate are health data under Art. 9 GDPR. That is precisely why the developer does not process them: they are produced on your device, evaluated there, and only ever leave it for your own Health app. Whether and how Health data is synchronised between your Apple devices is your choice in the iOS settings; Apple is the controller for that under the terms of your Apple account. What does not happen

• No sign-up, no account, no login.
• No analytics, no tracking, no third-party crash reporting.
• No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
• No sharing with third parties — there is nothing to share.
• No developer server: the app never calls an internet address on its own.

If you write to us

If you send us an email, we process your address and the content of your message in order to answer it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in responding to enquiries). Messages are deleted once they are dealt with and no statutory retention period applies. Please don't send health data we don't need — for a question about detection, the numbers from the session summary are enough.

This website

This site sets no cookies and embeds no analytics and no fonts from external servers. It is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When a page is requested, GitHub processes technically necessary access data (IP address, time, file requested, browser identification) for delivery and operational security (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Data may be transferred to the USA; GitHub is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We have no access to those logs. See GitHub's privacy statement and the terms for GitHub Pages.

App Store metrics

Downloads, purchases and optional crash reports are collected by Apple as part of the App Store. The developer only sees aggregated, non-personal figures in App Store Connect.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the rights of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21), as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77). Since we store no personal data about your use of the app, in practice these rights can only relate to email correspondence.

You delete your own data: revoke Health permissions at any time in the Health app under "Apps", and delete individual entries there as well. If you delete Padometer, its local settings go with it — workouts already written to Health remain until you remove them there.

Children

Padometer is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If the app changes, this policy will be updated. The date above states the current version.
